Clare’s Little Bears began taking children to the Forest School at Panshanger Park in 2017. After it’s closure, we felt our children were missing out and we set out to bring our own mini forest school to Clare’s Little Bears.
As our school is not in a forest, we had to think hard about how we were going to do this. We brought in Jaineen from Panshanger Park who is a Level 3 Forest School Practioner and transformed an area of our outside space.
Over the course of 6 sessions, using this space, along with trips to outdoor spaces, children take part in mini beast hunts, log climbing, natural art, den building, muddy play and have the chance to use tools. Children are encouraged to be imaginative, while also gaining practical skills.
Forest School benefits children’s physical development, connection to the natural world, empathy, resilience, team work, language, motor skills, sense of achievement and the ability to take risks in a safe environment.
From 2019 we are able to offer these experiences to children from outside the school. Individual children, childminders, home educators and holiday groups are all welcome.
